Tokens aside. Lay the Token cards (Victory, Seer Stone and Baby Monster) face up at the side of the table.
Deal the clans. Shuffle the rest well and deal each player 4 cards face down: 2 on top and 2 on the bottom. These can't change order unless an action says so.
Closed Highland Pile. All the other cards go face down in the middle.
Start of the game
Peek. Every player may peek once at their 2 bottom cards. Remember them well.
Open Highland Pile. Once everyone has looked, turn the top card of the Closed Highland Pile face up beside it.
First player. The oldest and wisest player starts the first round. Later rounds: whoever called FREEDOM!! last round.
